PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Electric Factory, long this city’s prime outlet for rock and roll entertainment, has shut its doors, for the age-old reasons of legal hassles and dwindling profits.
The demise of the Factory leaves Philly with only the Spectrum, a sports arena, for large concerts. The Spectrum can be used at either full capacity or partitioned off in a 5000 seat parcel. But either way, it’s a step down for rock and roll in general. About the only major year-’round club cities in the country now are New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit and Boston. Most other places see only rare concerts by big names.
