How You Gonna Keep ’Em Down In Paris (Once They’ve Seen Lou Reed)?

So what are they wearing in Paris these days? Well... clothes.

So what are they wearing in Paris these days? Well... clothes. I mean clothes, as in sweaters, shirts, skirts, trousers. Fairly straight, regular looking clothes. While I did see alot of what looked like last year’s henna hair jobs — is it possible that they can’t get it out? — in ten days in Paris I saw only one boy wearing lipstick. No one was walking around in Buck Rogers’ spacesuits, or horsehair crinolines, or lame underwear. And you never really see the clothing from the fashion magazines on the people in the street.

The people in the street (and I’m not talking about “street fashion” — but just the ordinary people, everyday, in the street) do seem to be wearing an awful lot of jeans. Of course they’re the French jeans, sometimes extremely wellcut, a softer blue and more expensive than Landlubbers. The vin ordinaire kind go for about 99 Francs — which is usually about 23. U.S. dollars. Occasionally you’ll spot the even better looking but badly made Spanish “Lois” jeans (if you don’t look too close the label looks like “Levis”).
