BOSTON: BEANTOWN BOMBERS BREAK BIG

“Rock stars are like sports heroes,” says Barry Goudreau.

“Rock stars are like sports heroes,” says Barry Goudreau, one of Boston’s guitarists, who’s wondering what he’s doing jammed into a tiny fluorescencebathed radio studio at such an hour. “They deserve to make millions of dollars. Think of how many kids practice for years to make the pros. The ones that succeed deserve it.”

Brad Delp, the group’s mischievous lead singer, who’s been scribbling sample questions (“Why are you so handsome?”) on the soft formica table-top, wags his head in agreement. “We have at least three hours of field goal practice everyday,” he giggles, scratching his lopsided head of curls, “And that’s just before our concerts.”

The band isn’t normally this flippant —they’re just having a laugh at the expense of one of Chicago’s less gifted FM personalities (who spent the remainder of the interview offering winning questions like “Where is rock going?” and “What do you do in your spare time?”). Of course, as Earl Butz once said, there is often a little bit of the gospel in every fool’s heart.
