I re-read last year’s version; last year was better. With the exception of Peter Frampton (who was this year’s hit and wears satin trousers), the names are almost the same.

No doubt, this year’s fashion highlight was Jonathan Richman who, at Town Hall, performed wearing cutoff denim shorts, striped athletic knee socks, and a bright green Santa Clara University t-shirt.

January

Television opened 1976, New Year’s Eve at CBGB’s; Tom Verlaine properly somber in a maroon t-shirt. The Ramones wore black leather. David Byrne wore a Lacoste +-shirt I guess it’s obvious where I spent most of January. Also, Robert Plant wore a cane and glitter blouse to Deep Purple’s party, and Patti Smith wore a Rastafarian t-shirt.

February

Freddie Mercury wore the usual skin tight satin trousers at the Beacon Theater and dressed to the left. Despite his album cover, Ian Hunter wore sunglasses to Queen’s party at LePouillaier. Rod Stewart wore the usual smirk, Britt Eklund the usual pout, to the Pretty Things’ L.A. party. Bowie wore that ho-hum black and white and Iggy’s hair was unnaturally blonde.
