Audio Big Top Comes To The Big Apple

For four days last October, the New York Hi Fi Stereo Music Show played the Statler Hilton (across the street from Madison Square Garden). New products were in abundance, and audiophiles got to see some far out items they may never have read about. The show's hot items broke down into three major categories—electronics, directto-disc records and several new speakers or transducers.
New electronics were certainly in evidence. In fact, there were some new products that won't even be on the market when you read this. One such is Hitachi's new high end cassette deck, a three head machine with excellent specs (something on the order of flat out to 20,000 Hz and wow-and-flutter of 0.28), but more than a few interesting features besides.
The D-5500 has what Hitachi calls an "auto equalize system". You dorl't have to set the bias and equalization, the deck will do it for you. Not only that, it will program itself to remember the settings for that particular tape.
