WHAT THE 80’S WILL REALLY BE LIKE

Lumping events together in decades is an implausible, if basically meaningless method employed by hacks in all fields for the categorization of hindsight.

Lumping events together in decades is an implausible, if basically meaningless method employed by hacks in all fields for the categorization of hindsight. It makes for good Time/Life books, Dick Clark specials and bizarre, circular pop music theories, but in Real Life (another useless concept we won’t go into at this time) things just don’t happen that way. A recent example is the goosing-up of the 60’s as a period of vast mental bingo in America, a real blimp of a decade. In reality, everybody still had crewcuts and toreador pants until 1968 at least, and then came old flower-power puss himself, Richard Nixon.
