their own (good) reasons, I had been looking forward to telling Doug Fieger face-to-his-smirking-face that it's okay by me if the

Knack really are as calculating as everyone claims.

I realize that it may be somewhat irresponsible of me to insist that the ends justify the means, even in the throwaway-rock

marketplace, but out here in the Midwest, so far, we've gotten only the Knack's ends—a rash of pleasantly chunky radio singles—and it’s hard for me to fault the means of anyone who manages to dress up my car-radio listening hours.
