THE BEAT GOES ON

What Makes Iggy Pop?

What DOES make Iggy POP? What caused Master Stiv Bators to hole up in Maine with Bebe Buell and child (children?), change diapers and go to town to buy fresh veggies and fruit after his rather rambunctious stint with the now defunct Dead Boys? And where is Cheetah getting Chromed these daze?

The answer,' says psychologist Marvin Zuckerman of the University of Delaware, has to, do with highscores on the “Sensation Seeking Scale”, which is caused by “low levels of a brain chemical called momoamine oxidase (MAO).”

According to Zuckerman’s reports, MAO helps break down catecholamines that transmit messages among nerve cells in the brain. If your MAO level is low, chances are your catecholamines are not being broken down, and this may cause you

to seek out stimulation in the form of “thrills” to supply what is missing in your nervous system. Research has discovered that men with low levels of MAO could explain marital unhappiness .and “macho” (for definition read Blood Dues by Dotson £ Rader, and anything by the late J Norman Mailer) behavior.
