Keyboardist Ronnie Foster (formerly of George Benson’s band), driving a car for Yamaha, was the first place winner. Alto Reed, saxophonist with Bob Seger’s Silver Bullet Band, came in second, driving a car for Electro-Voice Speakers, while television star Sally Struthers was the third place winner, driving CREEM’s own rock ’n’ roll hot rod dragster.
Other celebrity drivers included: television personality Parker Stevenson; Bosom Buddies star Donna Dixon (who was accompanied by the Bionic Man, himself, Lee Majors); Jeff Conaway of Taxi fame; Little Feat producer and guitarist Paul Barrere, Jeff Baxter, and REO Speedwagon drummer Alan Gratzer, who brought along most of his band for the gala festivities.
A rockin’ and roarin’ good time was had by all!
