La Vie En Mung: Men At Work Do Just That
MINNEAPOLIS—One day in the (work) life of Colin Hay:
1) Garbed in pink trousers and burgundy beret, our Man At Work goes around to three distribution offices in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which houses the largest ones in the U.S. of A. Hay is bored but behaved.
2) Hay meets CREEM reporter in lobby of hot-cha suburban hotel, at which the phones are answered “bonjour” in a Midwestern accent. He looks at the reporter with the infamous eyes that go in opposite directions. She is unnerved.
3) Introductions to band members are made in elevator. Hay is not facing her, but she thinks he’s probably looking at her anyway.
4) Hay and reporter settle into “living area” of a hotel suite the size of most people’s apartments. A pair of fabulous pink suede boots on the floor by the king-dom size bed are the only rock star thing in the room.
5) Hay and reporter fumble With small talk. Hay pours the coffee and lights her cigarettes. Seeing that her eyes cross too, they are having a hell of a time getting comfortable.
