Who are the Dream Academy? Three people, actually, with a lot more tossed in for live performances and recording purposes. Nick Laird-Clowes is the “bigshot,” if you will, as he’s the lead singer and songwriter in the band. Nick’s not exactly a newcomer to the music business, either. As those in the know fully realize, Nick first appeared in a band called Alfalpha—an English trio that released a nifty, folkish LP on England's EMI label, during the heyday of “punk rock.” And after that? He was leader of a band called the Act—who released an album here in the States called Too Late At Twenty, which was a pop-rockin’ showcase in the first degree. Despite all these records, Nick looks as young as you or me, though—so good for him\
