THE MAN OF STEEL

(DC Comics)

With this six-issue mini-series, DC has reinvented Superman, throwing away the excesses that have accumulated about the Kryptonian and, in general, drastically changing the Superman of historicity. Some examples: Superman is Krypton’s sole survivor. He doesn’t know he’s an alien until he’s an adult. There’s' only one piece of kryptonite in the whole world. Clark Kent isn’t a wimp, he’s a high school football hero. He tells Lana Lang his secret while they’re still in high school. Lex Luthor’s crooked, but a respected public figure. Superman has to shave\ Lois Lane is a bitch!! And of no use to Krypto, since he never existed!!! The caption ramifications alone are startling! To set this scenario in cement, this series was followed by Superman #1, so there’s no looking back. Too bad. J.K.
