Although INXS have been touring this proud and free nation of late, they did meet with a spot of controversy in their proud and free home, Australia, just before coming stateside.

It seems that Job Bjelke-Peterson, the premier of the Australian province of Queensland, is adamantly opposed to the venerable condom dispensing machine. Although this Bureau couldn’t care less, Michael Hutchence, INXS’ lead singer, evidently thinks the premier is...well, in his own words from an Australian stage: “that f—wit Joh Bjelke-fPetersen.” Hmm, these dashes are hard to get ahold of, even in this proud and free magazine. Anyway, you can guess what Mikey was talking about, and to punctuate his description, he threw out “extra large” condoms to the audience. The audience, by all reports, thought this was a dandy thing to do.

In response to Hutchence’s actions, a spokesman for the premier with the weird name said that he “considered such statements showed a complete lack of moral and community responsibility—like their (INXS’) music.” Jesus, everybody’s a rock critic.
