Becoming BECOMING LED ZEPPELIN

The rare footage and photos that made the epic documentary possible

February 5th, 2025, saw the release of Becoming Led Zeppelin, the first documentary to feature unseen footage, unheard interviews, and new testimonials from the entire (yes, that’s correct) band. Tracing the members’ upbringing all the way until after the release of Led Zeppelin II, director Bernard MacMahon and producer Allison McGourty did it with a massive amount of archival, so much so that no narration was needed to tell the story in full. What does that mean? Insane photos of a press-shy band from primary school, in early bands, as session musicians, and together that have rarely or more likely have never been seen before.

All of this mind-blowing footage adds up to one of the most well-executed and rewatchable films of the year, so we cornered MacMahon and McGourty to hear stories about how the sausage was made, as well as tales from the band’s heyday.
