NIGHT GOAT UTOPIA

Napalm Death and Melvins combine forces

June 1, 2026
Fred Pessaro

In 2025, grind godfathers Napalm Death joined forces with the Melvins to do what the pair do best—wow cities across North America. Just before those dates, the two bands quietly whipped up a collaborative LP, initially intended to be an EP, for placement on the merch table at the dates. Limited to a scant 500 copies, the record vanished quickly, but thanks to the good folks at Ipecac, it’s now available to gen pop. So, Discogs dorks with a finger quivering over the “buy” button for those limited releases, have at it. Us sensible folk grabbed our copy of Savage Imperial Death March on April 10.

Anytime is a good time to talk to Buzz Osborne from the Melvins and Shane Embury from Napalm Death, so we had them BOTH in to discuss how that record came together, how they initially met, and what’s next for each of them.

How are you today?

Buzz Osborne: Just partying, that’s all I do. Is Shane here? Are we gonna have to go over to his house and get him? We’ll shoot up a flare.

I’m from Brooklyn, we use pigeons.

Buzz: Brooklyn? Never heard of it.
