ROCK ’N’ ROLL IS A CONTACT SPORT

I’m sure I’m ripping the above line off from someone. And a quick Google search reveals a few potential originators.
(1) Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, who said it in a 2010 interview. I definitely bought Slippery When Wet from Columbia House when I was 9 years old, but the New Jersey pop hair-metal band never really did it for me, and there’s no way I’ve ever read an interview with Mr. Sambora. We can rule this one out.
(2) Tom Petty, who used it in 2017 to caption an Instagram post of a few photos of him and his band swinging their guitars around. Now, not seeing Tom Petty in Queens on what would be his final tour will forever be a top 5 rock ’n’ roll regret for me, and this would obviously be the coolest answer, but I think I'd remember seeing photos of Petty and the Heartbreakers taking a page out of the Who’s book of stage destruction antics, so we can rule this out, too. For the record, it doesn’t appear our Floridian heroes actually smashed their instruments.
