You know that YouTube show where the guy does street interviews with musicians, celebrities, and everyday New Yorkers? That’s Track Star. And the interviewer? That’s Jack Coyne, who has put everyone from Flying Lotus to Maggie Gyllenhaal on the spot, asking them to don headphones and identify songs as a jumping-off point to discuss an artist’s history or current projects. We found it a bit one-sided that no one had tested Coyne (not Wayne, that’s later) on his musical knowledge yet, so we did what any good CREEM fan would and interrogated the interrogator.

You’ve got quite a shelf of records and books in the background.

I did this thing yesterday where I gave people free books, and I was giving away my favorite music books that I’ve read recently.

What were some of those books?

The newest one is John & Paul: A Love Story in Songs, which was really fun. We [Ed. the Track Star team] gave away Please Kill Me, the Legs McNeil book, which is really great. And Vivian Albertine’s Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys, which is so, so good.
