No matter how much we fight it, we’re all getting older and more “musically irrelevant” to the music supervisor overlords of popular programming like Euphoria or KPop Demon Hunter. But we also haven’t hit Downton Abbey-level curation, praise be.

So thank God there are still kids like guitar whiz Zach Krys who have their heads screwed on straight and know a thing or 12 about riffs. Zach’s the sort of 14-year-old who can talk at length about Municipal Waste and Al Di Meola, all the while sweep-picking a Dorian Ionic callipygous scale and responding to his DMs.

We have a bit of a soft spot for the guy; maybe it’s that seven-fret stretch, or it could be his fandom for both Necrophagist and tallica. He parlayed his substantial shredding ability into thousands of social media followers and a Gibson sponsorship, so we decided to give him some listening homework and see what the youth were digging. We’re happy to report that the kids are still alright.
