Finding Your Way With FATHER TIME

September 1, 2026
Fred Pessaro

When it comes to my family’s musical tastes, there were my bands (Minor Threat, A Tribe Called Quest, the Smiths, and many others), there were Dad’s bands (ELO, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, etc.), and then there were a few that were OUR bands. Guns N’ Roses were one of them—he’s always had a bit of a heavy metal side to him—Def Leppard were another, and one of the other big ones was Rush. My dad wasn’t big on Rush at first—he only knew the hits—but when I started to really dive into them in my early teens, he came with me. I have distinct memories of seeing them on the Presto and Roll the Bones tours, we definitely caught them on the Counterparts and Test for Echo tours, and a couple others are sprinkled in there. By the time I left the house in the 2000s, they had gone back to being my band, but they’ll always be ours in my head.
