A sheen of sweat clings to me while I speed-walk to NYC’s Rough Trade record store. It’s a big day for Philly shoegaze rockers Nothing, who are christening the release of their latest LP, A Short History of Decay, with an intimate in-store show—and I'm running late, anxiety building, and covered in a sheen of sweat.
Upon arrival, I shrug off my coat and am quickly introduced to the band as they wrap up soundcheck. They all look tough. I find myself standing with frontman Domenic “Nicky” Palermo as they excitedly debate their latest obsession: a cola-flavored vape, and the even more elusive cherry cola variety. I’m relieved that they are all sweethearts.
